Discreet braces

Some people have their teeth straightened in their youth, but there are many who are not so fortunate.  For various reasons such as finances or a lack of parental support, some people emerge into adulthood with teeth that are misaligned, crooked or overcrowded.  It used to be that people simply had to put up with it, but this is no longer the case.  There are now lots of options, some of which offer discretion for the older patient.  Two of the most popular of these options are Incognito Weybridge and invisible braces.

Incognito braces

Incognito is a type of treatment that is often very appealing to people who are getting their teeth straightened when they are no longer in the first flush of youth.  These braces are much like the usual ones that many people associate with orthodontic treatment in that they feature wires that are fixed to the teeth using brackets.

The difference between ordinary traditional braces and Incognito ones is that, rather than being secured at the front where they are very visible, these are situated behind the teeth.  Incognito braces deliver excellent results whilst being hardly noticeable to others, and they can be used to fix a wide range of orthodontic issues.

Invisible braces

Invisible braces are even more discreet.  They are completely different from metal braces because they are made up of sets of clear plastic trays.  These trays, known as aligners, are slotted over the teeth.  Aligners are customised to fit the patient perfectly, which makes them very comfortable to wear.  They are swapped regularly throughout the treatment period to accommodate the changing position of the teeth.

Invisible braces are sometimes referred to as Invisalign, which is a brand used all over the world to help people to get the smile they want.  They usually do their job in just a few months, rather than a year or two which is often the case with other kinds of braces.  However, treatment times do vary, so it is important to discuss expectations before getting started.

Clear braces are removable, which allows greater flexibility for the patient.  They can eat whatever they like and can continue their favourite sports throughout treatment.

Which braces are best?

Both Incognito (a brand of lingual braces) and invisible braces are ideal options for anyone who wants to get their teeth straightened, but who does not want their colleagues and friends to be aware that they are having treatment.  The best choice is very much dependent on the individual patient and the position of their teeth.  Having a physical examination and discussion with a qualified dentist or orthodontist is the only way to decide which braces are most appropriate.

Why get braces?

The patient who has gone through life with a smile they are not happy with often finds that they experience a surge in self-confidence after having this kind of treatment.  They are glad to smile again, and feel great about how they look, possibly for the first time.

Having teeth straightened also helps to protect and prolong good oral health, which impacts the health of the whole body.
